Selfridges: On The Roof With Q

On The Roof with Q Lemon Posset

This year Selfridges have come up with an ingenious new concept for their rooftop space. Every year they have some sort of pop-upon their roof, but from now on it will be transformed into a pop-up restaurant every summer. This year it is ‘On The Roof With Q’, by Des McDonald. The restaurant provides a delicious selection of late breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea menus with a ‘raw, grill & smoke’ focus.

The covered conservatory has a fully retractable roof for those warm sunny days, and with the menu consisting of fresh salads, fresh juices and delicious cocktails, pastries, and BBQ’d meat, there’s truly something for everyone. The Roof House Punch is a very quaffable fruity concoction in an in-vogue glass kilner jar with a striped straw, while the Secret Garden is an acquired taste.

I start with the Bosworth ash & broccoli tart, the Bosworth ash cheese in the tart steals the show, and I even type if in my phone as a reminder to buy some. I follow with the Grilled sea bass, which almost lives up to the Rextail sea bass, but not quite. The spiced chickpeas are a little too much for my liking, but the sea bass was well cooked and just what I wanted. My guest has the Q Burger, which looks incredibly moreish with a large dollop of thick avocado resting on top of the patty.

For dessert we share the Lemon posset, a refreshingly delightful treat that melts on the tongue. We’re tempted to get another dessert, but alas, we resist. Another time.

On The Roof With Q is a welcome change to many of the restaurants popping up around London, it feels calming and peaceful, far away from the busy city streets five floors below us. The view isn’t impressive, but I don’t think you should come here for the view, you should come for the food and the ‘prettiness’ of it all.

Lunch at On The Roof With Q is on average £30+ each including drinks. Reservations are recommended.
