The Ivy Market Grill, Covent Garden

The Ivy Market Grill Covent Garden

The little sister of the most famous restaurant in Britain has arrived. Richard Caring has opened The Ivy Market Grill, just across the road from The Ivy.

The Ivy Market Grill however, is no replacement for The Ivy, nor is it new competition. The Market Grill is a relaxed and informal brasserie, open all day they serve everything from brunch to cocktails, to everything in between. They also keep half of the covers for walk-ins, meaning the grill is a much better option for an impromptu dinner.

However, like their big sister, they do the classics with a twist, and they do them good. The Crispy Duck Salad is similar to the original but heartier….fresher. Everything about the Market Grill seems fresher. The Ivy is looking so tired and dated now that it makes a refreshing change to eat their best dishes in prettier surroundings.

Naturally the opening has come at the perfect time for Caprice Holdings, as The Ivy is about to close its doors for it’s very first refurbishment in decades.

The Ivy is known for Shepherd’s Pie, and a bloody good one they do to, so how did little sister’s match up? Pretty darn good, in fact, I’d go so far as to say it was better! For dessert I choose yet another classic, the Creme Brulee, which had that perfect ‘crack’ and cold creamy filling.

As well as the excellent food the service was top-notch too, something I find consistent across all Caprice Holdings restaurants bar The Ivy, funnily enough.

The Ivy Market Grill is open 7 days a week for all-day dining, from 7am-Late. Reservations can be made via phone 020 3301 0200 or online.
