AG REVIEWS: DINNER AT FAZENDA, BIRMINGHAM

fazenda birmingham restaurant review

Brazillian restaurant chain Fazenda arrived in Birmingham late last year. We headed down to the Colmore Row location to check out their evening offerings…

INTERIORS AND ATMOSPHERE

Combining a minimalistic interior of brickwork and high ceilings with quirky Argentinian decor (the walls are lined with smatterings of cow-style print and horse saddles hang from above you) Fazenda offers a vast and stylish space to spend your evening. With three private dining rooms (including a larger space for up to 60 guests), it also offers a more intimate space for special occasions. On arriving at 6pm, the restaurant was relatively quiet but it soon began to fill up and as the evening drew on, the crowds came with it.

THE FOOD AND MENU AT FAZENDA

Food at Fazenda works in two ways. First, you fill up on the restaurant’s vast self-service gourmet side bar; highlights of which included both hold and cold dishes; a plethora of cheeses, freshly made hummus, spicy roast potatoes and Brazilian Feijoada-a bean stew with meat. It’s incredibly easy to fill your plate (and belly!) from that alone but make sure you don’t; since the fifteen different meat varieties that await you deserve your full attention.

Cooked to your preferences and delivered to your table in perfectly sized portions by Passadores (meat chefs), are delicacies including Cordeiro Lamb Chump (a velvety, succulent cut perfectly complemented with a meat dressing), hearty Chorizo Picante and Sobrecoxa De Frango Chicken Thighs (mildly spiced and incredibly juicy). Take things at your own pace by placing a red card at your table when you are taking a breather and a green card when your plate needs filling!

Somehow, we found space for desert. The sorbet selection was an excellent palate cleanser, whilst the mini selection of Brazillian sweet treats was an ideal way to sample miniature portions of delights such as Quindim (coconut and egg yolk) and Chocolate Truffle.

Dining at Fazenda Birmingham costs £34.50 for an evening selection. For more information, visit them here.
