One of Paris’s most iconic hotels – Hôtel de Crillon – has reopened, with two of the luxurious suites designed by none other than Chanel and Fendi’s Karl Lagerfeld.

The hotel closed in 2013 for extensive £200million renovations, and has reopened under the Rosewood Hotels brand. Dating back to the 18th century, this historic treasure is decidedly reborn as a luxury hotel for 21st century travellers. Located in the heart of Paris at 10 Place de la Concorde, Hôtel de Crillon’s past provides a rich backdrop for its modern-day story.

Restoring the hotel’s listed features was a major part of the project, and during the hotel’s closure, master craftsmen, artisans and designers apparently worked to strike a deliberate and delicate balance between conservation and transformation. They’ve managed to transform the entire interior which includes 78 rooms, 36 suites and 10 signature suites, and even stumbled across a lost chapel that had been hidden by previous refurbishment works.

Karl Lagerfeld, renowned designer and a great 18th century admirer, has decorated two exceptional suites on Place de la Concorde and together called “Les Grands Appartements.”, which convey his personal vision of French chic and modernity. Turning to the outdoor areas, landscape architect Louis Benech created Hôtel de Crillon’s whimsical courtyards.

The hotel has also added a luxurious subterranean spa and swimming pool, ensuring they remain competitive against the plethora of luxury hotels in the vicinity. We haven’t had a chance to view or experience the hotel yet, but when we do we will be sure to report back and provide a thorough review once it has ‘settled in’.
