AG Reviews: Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch

“Irasshaimase” – meaning ‘Welcome’ in Japanese.

Nobu hotels are renowned for their blend of modern cool luxury and minimal Japanese tradition. A lifestyle hotel, Nobu prides itself on being high-end, but not exclusive. Nobu Hotel, London Shoreditch is no different.

Architecturally, the hotel has been constructed with a unique spin on industrial meets modern design. Exposed concrete walls and ceilings across the hotel’s footprint are paired with Japanese-inspired wood panelling and artwork. Floor-to-ceiling windows are contained behind a choice of mural-covered blinds or a separate slatted partition, which when pulled back enables natural light to fill the room.

The Rooms at Nobu Shoreditch

Across the 164 guest rooms and suites, there are ten styles available depending on price and preference. From the entry-level Deluxe Room offering a comfortable and spacious oasis through to the higher-level suites such as the Nobu Suite with its large open-plan dining room, fully functioning kitchen and private balconies.

The interiors are what one would expect from a hotel that prides itself on minimal Japanese tradition. Subtle lighting, that once you’ve worked out which dial commands which lighting fixture, provides a moody ambience for each corner of the room. Clever cabinetry conceals the fridge, Japanese tea set, television and other accoutrements, which when open also provide shelving and a mirror. The welcome fruit selection is also a nice gesture upon arrival.

The bathroom is again typically minimal. Wooden furnishings house the complimentary toiletries, whilst the clean and modern fixtures make the space calming and fuss-free; exactly what you need having navigated your way through East London’s creative district.

Amenities at Nobu London Shoreditch

The gym, spa & wellness areas continue the cool luxury theme. A modern gym kitted out with ‘Technogym’ equipment caters for the average gym attendees through to those who know their way around a dumbbell or two.

The spa offers a range of wellness, beauty, fitness and relaxation treatments. Boasting his and hers steam room facilities, comfortable and serene treatment rooms and Natura Bissé products, Nobu Spa’s service provision will help to rejuvenate, revitalise and re-energise you. Just in time to enjoy a drink in the impressive bar.

Food & Drink at Nobu Hotel London

Navigating down the hotel’s grand staircase takes you to the cavernous sub-level NAMI bar, alfresco terrace and world-renowned Nobu restaurant. This impressive space is both imposing and welcoming in equal measure.

Across the bar’s back wall is a seductive selection of whiskies, gin, cognac and sake. Its friendly bar staff look almost dwarfed by the high ceiling, concrete pillars and mechanised bi-folding doors leading to the outdoor terrace as they dutifully demonstrate their cocktail-making craftsmanship with playful panache.

Ornate vases separate the bar from the restaurant space where the East London Nobu dining space offers an elegant and dynamic culinary experience. Like most Nobu restaurants diners can enjoy famed Nobu classics such as the Black Cod Miso, Japanese Wagu Beef and Nobu Tacos alongside unique plates inspired by the creativity and vibrancy of the local neighbourhood. All of which can be observed in production by virtue of the open-plan kitchen.

Our Verdict

Given East London’s ever-developing landscape, the London Shoreditch Nobu Hotel feels like the perfect pairing for the area. A subtle yet stylish addition to one of London’s creative hubs the hotel can cater for those wishing to while away the evening with friends in the bar and restaurant as well as providing a relaxing reprieve from the London bustle should you need it.
