Brasserie of Light, a new destination restaurant and bar from Caprice Holdings, will open as part of the final chapter of Selfridges’ £300 million investment in its London store. Contemporary, artistic and elegant, the brasserie will feature London’s largest scale artwork by Damien Hirst, offering all day dining in a chic, Art-Deco brasserie set within the world’s best department store.

Richard Caring comments “When you think of the Capital City of the World you think of London. When you think of London you think of Selfridges. In the future when you think of London restaurants I hope you will think of Brasserie of Light. A culmination of putting together extreme talent, extreme experience, extreme desire and extreme passion. The Brasserie of Light is a new look spectacle where the input of Damien Hirst, Martin Brudnizki and the absolute strength of Selfridges; this mix has resulted in what I believe to be something very beautiful. It is about light, make-believe and dreams. Dreams in this restaurant will come true!”

The brasserie and bar will serve an eclectic mix of classic British and internationally-inspired dishes throughout the day. The A La Carte menu will feature dishes such as ‘scallops with red peppers, roasted fennel and capers’ to start, ‘spaghetti with lobster’ as a main course and ‘Pegasus Pie served with a yuzu coconut cloud’ for dessert. The weekend brunch menu will include avocado and poached eggs, given an edge with ancient grains, turmeric, coconut and garlic hollandaise, while Champagne afternoon tea will be a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds.

Caprice Holdings Restaurant in Selfridges called Brasserie of Light

Cocktails at Brasserie of Light will include ‘The Queen of Time’ – named after the sculpture sat above Selfridges’ main entrance – an all-English interpretation of a classic kir royale with ridgeview Bloomsbury Brut NV English sparkling wine, white heron cassis and Plymouth sloe gin. Also nodding to the store’s legacy is the ‘Est. 1909’ cocktail, a timeless blend of Beefeater gin, St. Germaine elderflower and prosecco, inspired by its 109th anniversary this year.

The centrepiece to the restaurant, and in keeping with the Caprice style is Pegasus, a piece of artwork by Damien Hirst. The 24ft crystal encrusted statue has a 30 ft wingspan and will soar over diners with hooves lifted, while an East facing aspect floods the space with natural light.

The kitchen at Brasserie of Light will be headed up by exciting Portugese chef Emanuel Machado, whose passion for enjoyable, accessible cooking has helped Balthazar become a Covent Garden classic since it opened in 2013.

From sunrise to late evening, Brasserie of Light will offer something for everyone, while an exclusive entrance on Duke Street will allow the restaurant to operate outside of the store closing hours, a first in Selfridges long retail history.
