The Spirit of Salcombe: Salcombe Gin’s New Butler Service

salcombe gin devonIn an industry that offers a cacophony of choices and in particular a market that many could consider already saturated, it is very rare that a brand can make such an impact across so many different levels. Salcombe Gin however does just that.

The luxury spirit, which embodies the adventurous lifestyle on and off the water, is for those with a spirited soul. Born out of a love of gin and a dream to produce the world’s finest white spirit within one of the England’s most stunning coastal towns, Salcombe Gin was formed.

Salcombe Gin’s Devonshire Heritage

Co-founders Angus Lugsdin and Howard Davis met twenty years ago working as sailing instructors at the Island Cruising Club in Salcombe, south west England. Their creation has been inspired by the coastal vitality of Salcombe and its ship-building heritage for exotic trading routes.

A gin spirit with fresh citrus at its core, Salcombe Gin’s recipe inspiration harks back to the 19th Century and the locally built sailing vessels that imported over 80% of fresh citrus fruits and spices from the Azores, West Indies and Mediterranean. Locally known as the Salcombe ‘Fruiters’, the boats were built in Salcombe, crewed by local men and represent an integral part of Salcombe’s history.

Whilst the azure waters of South Devon provided the inspiration, it has been the international and regional awards that have provided the substantiation. Salcombe Gin has won countless accolades for its exceptional flavour and distinctive smoothness since its launch two years ago. Credited with Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2017 and Gold at the World Gin Awards in the same year, Salcombe Gin has impressed a global audience.

As for the taste, every batch of the multi award winning gin is a zesty fusion of grapefruit, lemon and lime peels precariously balanced by a further ten botanicals hand selected from around the world.

Having made its mark in the taste tests, the brand is now making their mark on the south west coastal waters as this summer sees two exclusive opportunities await yachting visitors to Salcombe Harbour – a Salcombe Gin Butler Service and Yacht Gin Delivery Service.
