Platform-Side Grandeur at Searcys St Pancras Grand

Set amongst the hustle and bustle of St Pancras Station, travellers milling around in search of their train or a bite to eat, is the St Pancras Grand restaurant from Searcys. The St Pancras Grand certainly lives up to its name; the grand décor, dark wood and art deco features, moving you to a time gone by.

My guest and I were seated, and handed menus. The St Pancras Grand often do a set menu for around £20 which makes dining here cheaper, however there wasn’t much on the current one that took our fancy, so we stuck to the main menu. I was quite full from lunch so just ordered fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar whilst my friend ordered the Soup of the Day. The fresh breads were no doubt the best I had ever tasted; crunchy but not too crunchy, and incredibly soft inside. They were perfect for smothering in butter and dipping into the olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

The service in-between the starters and mains was very slow, to the point we thought we might have to cut and run to catch our train. We left a good couple of hours to eat, but from being seated to getting our mains, it took over an hour. However, the mains were worth the wait.

I opted for the Confit duck leg, sat on a bed of crushed potatoes and rhubarb relish, and finished with an endive salad. The meat was succulent and tender, and just fell off the bone when I cut into it, while the rhubarb relish gave a refreshing finish to the dark meat.

The food was delicious and the restaurant itself felt special and relaxed. However, the slow service let them down severely. This is a really fantastic restaurant for if you want a special dinner before you go and get your train, but I wouldn’t cross London and go out of my way for it.

Reservations for St Pancras Grand can be made via phone (0207 870 9900) or online.
